Biography

 

 

Bob Moore is a composer with a multifaceted resume. To date he has published nearly 200 choral and instrumental works, many of which have been recorded on 6 CDs and appear in various denominations’ hymnals. He was a resident composer in the Faith Partners Program, sponsored by the American Composers Forum, a finalist in the Jacksonville Symphony’s Fresh Ink competition and has received numerous commissions from various churches and performers. In addition to sacred music, his catalog contains art songs and cycles, compositions
for solo piano and music for both large and chamber ensembles. 
 
Recently, As I Walk with Beauty for chorus received its premiere performance at  Lincoln Center in June of 2010, and in the same month the Rhapsody for Oboe and Piano was premiered during the St. Augustine Music Festival.  Pocket Litter,  a concerto for percussion and wind ensemble, was premiered by the First Coast Wind Ensemble in February, 2010. The Singers was awarded first prize in the Longfellow Chorus International Composers' Competition.  Premieres in 2011  thus far include Opening Remarks (for oboe and viola, by the San Marco  Chamber Music Society), G.A.S. (for percussion quartet) and Low Viscosity for  (vibraphone and piano) and the Mass for Saint Luke the Evangelist (in Raleigh,
NC).  Laugh and Sing (for soprano and piano) will receive its premiere in Argentina in November, 2011, Magnificat will be performed during the upcoming New Voices Festival at Catholic University, and The Prayer of Saint Francis will be premiered at the Atlanta Choristers Guild Festival.
 
For 20 years he served as the Director of Liturgical Music at San Jose Catholic  Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where he developed an exceptional music 
ministry. From 2005 to 2008 he was the Director of Music Ministry at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine, where he co-founded the St. Augustine Music Festival, and is currently the Music Director for St. Patrick's Episcopal
Church.  
 
He has served as music director for the Amelia Island Chorale and as the artistic director of the Orange Park Chorale, has taught band and chorus in public and  private schools, and has maintained a healthy studio of private students. As a pianist, he performs jazz and experimental music with percussionist Tony Steve.  The duo is also noted for their live silent film performances.   
 
Bob studied composition with Richard Proulx, William Schirmer, Gordon Goodwin and Bud Udell at the University of South Carolina, Jacksonville University, and
the University of Florida. 
 
His publishers include G.I.A. Publications, Oregon Catholic Press, World Library Publications and Santa Barbara Music Publications.
